The 23rd ITRI International Conference January 12, 2024 (hybrid)
The Interpreting andTranslation Research Institute (ITRI) at HankukUniversity of Foreign Studies (HUFS) in Korea is pleasedto invite you to the 23rd ITRI International Conference. This conference, scheduled for January 12, 2024, will explore the theme of “Cultural Conflictand Dissonance in Translation and Interpreting.” We offer both in-person andonline participation options – the latter being reserved exclusively forresearchers based overseas. Throughout history, translatorsand interpreters have been key facilitators of intercultural dialogue. Whiletechnological advancements have broadened the scope of global exchange, challengesarising from deep-rooted cultural differences persist. In these situations, translatorsand interpreters facilitate and influence the exchange as autonomous culturalmediators, rarely with any other means for resolution than their very own. These difficult situations open updiscussions and shed light on their roles, positions, and ethics as well as thepolicies concerning translation and interpreting, with practical implications forthe training of future translators and interpreters.
The 23rd International Conference isplanned for rich discussions and collaborative problem-solving around thecomplex subject of cultural conflict and dissonance in our field. We lookforward to your participation in enriching this academic dialogue withresearch, insight, and engagement.
